After the success of their best-selling Farpoint backpack, Osprey have introduced a female fit counterpart! The Osprey Fairview 40 is designed for women with a female fit back system and comes with all the same features as the Osprey Farpoint.

This 40 litre women's backpack comes in a carry-on size*, ideal for shorter trips or travelling light, and is packed with clever features to make life easier during your trip. The backpack features two separate compartments to help keep everything organised, including a large front compartment with a padded 15.4" laptop sleeve and zipped pocket for your passport, travel documents and essentials.

The main compartment has a large zippered panel opening for easy packing and access to your gear and features internal compression straps to maximise your packing space. You also get a large zippered mesh pocket inside the main compartment which is ideal for storing dirty laundry to stop it getting mixed up with your clean clothes!

As the Fairview 40 is designed for women, it comes with a female fit back system which consists of an ergonomically shaped harness, hip belt, yoke and back panel. It also benefits from a die-cut spacer mesh construction, which provided ventilation and padding for added comfort, great in tropical climates or when carrying the Fairview for long periods of time. When you need to give your back a rest, simply use the zippered cover to pack the harness away and use the detachable shoulder strap to carry it over your shoulder.

Comes in Rainforest Green.

WS/WM back length: 38-53cm

*Always check airline hand luggage restrictions before travelling.

Fairview 40 FAQ's

Q: Can you attach a daypack to this bag?

A: No, you can't attach a daypack to this backpack. However, the larger Fairview 55 comes with a removable 13 litre daypack.

Q: What's the difference between this and the Osprey Farpoint 40?

A: Osprey launched this pack, the female fit counterpart to the Farpoint 40, in Autumn 2017. It is designed for women with 38-53cm back length, ergonomically shaped harness, hip belt, back panel and narrower yoke. Since the introduction of the Fairview range, Osprey have categorised their Farpoint 40 as a men's travel backpack. However, it is still suitable for both men and women due to its choice of back lengths. The S/M back length is typically the most popular option with female travellers and the M/L is more popular with male travellers.

Q: Is the back system adjustable?

A: No, the back system is not adjustable. It's designed to fit ladies with a back length of 38-53cm. To measure your back length you will need to locate your C7 vertebrae (the bony bump at the base of your neck) and iliac crest (the top of the hip bones) and measure the distance between the two.

Q: Is it suitable for using as hand luggage on all airlines?

A: It is 54 x 35 x 23cm in size and is designed to conform with the EU maximum carry-on luggage size. When it isn't packed to capacity, you can use the external compression straps to reduce its size to 54 x 35 x 20cm. While this pack is suitable for using as carry-on luggage on the majority of airlines, we would strongly recommend checking your airline's cabin bag size and weight restrictions before buying this bag.

Q: Where do you store the back system cover when you're using the backpack straps?

A: The cover that protects the backpack straps can be unzipped, rolled up and stored inside a small compartment at the base of the backpack when you're carrying it on your back.

Q: What size laptop will fit inside?

A: This backpack is designed to hold a 15.4" laptop and comes with padding at the front and back of its laptop sleeve.

Q: Is this bag big enough to take on a 4 week trip?

A: This is largely down to how you pack, but it is suitable for anything from a weekend away to several months of backpacking. With the growing popularity of carry-on only travel, many backpackers are now opting for 40 litre backpacks and using space saving packing techniques, such as only packing the essentials and using packing cubes to maximise their packing space. If you're travelling for 4 weeks, this would be a suitable option, as long as you're not packing a lot of equipment in addition to your clothes and essentials. If you don't tend to travel light, we would recommend the larger Fairview 55 travel backpack, which also comes with a removable daypack for day trips.
